Give more details...Type and size of cable? MGN or ungrounded secondary supply?

Contact a customer service engineer at the local utility. Also call the nearest IBEW lineman local, for companies experienced in medium voltage installations.

The insulation is ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) Do the single cables have a concentric neutral around the insulation jacket?

Some cables just have a minimum (size) of shielding which is nothing more than a static drain wire.

Others have an (equivalent) 1/3rd size of the phase conductor, so that grounding conductors on 3 of the phase Conductors equals a full size grounded conductor when terminated at each end of the cable run.

The above description is basic only.

Consult the cable manufacturer by e-mail.

The highest distribution system voltage is 34.5 KV. This system uses cable with a concentric neutral.
Three phase loads the neutral is 1/3 size. Single phase loads the neutral is full size.

To get back to your original question...The ground wire only needs to be #6 cu. to a rod or butt plate.
