Re: hydro-tub receptacle location

i always leave about 5 ft. of extra romex on the rough. When it comes time to finish I cut in a box and GFI recepatacle on the nearest wall (usually inside the master closet, then feed from the load side of the GFI to a receptacle in a handy box. Works pretty well.

It also doesn't give a minimum or maximum distance requirement, and it doesn't forbid the use of an extension cord. More to the point (my point at least, and I can be easily bought off on this one :D ), nothing anywhere prohibits the use of an extension cord. In the wonderful world of the NEC, all ties are awarded to the holder of the "what is not prohibited is permitted" side of the argument.

Re: hydro-tub receptacle location

I don't understand why this is an issue. Just blank the box and extend the outlet closer to the motor. If there is no access to the blanked box just relocate it under the house.

To answer the question though, why would you approve it without knowing what his plan is to correct the problem?

Charlie,

400.9 Flexible cords shall be used only in continuous lengths without splice or TAP where initially installed ----

Does this forbid the extention cord use?

I don't need to see a prohibition if I have a mandate. :)

I have a cord & plug connected motor fixed in place. 210.50(B) is all encompassing, not even restricted to dwelling units. Therefore, at the attachment plug of this cord there needs to be a receptacle.

In the table lamp example, the table lamp is transient, not fixed in place.

Or at least, that's my story. :D
