My building inspector colleague returned from a recent inpection claiming he failed the contractor because he didn't bond the fawcett handles of a hydromassage bathtub.I don't agree. With cpvc or pex being the piping method of choice,I don't look for equipotential bonding.Am I missing anything?

That code cestion requires bonding only if you have a metal piping system. A small piece of copper is not a water piping system. If it were, we would be bonding every plumbing fixture back to the service, as per 250.104(A).

It seems like people either get or they don't.

METAL PIPING SYSTEM
The key phrase in the requirement.
But...it does not mean much if:
a) One does not read the code
or
b) One does not understand what one reads in the code.

It is good that colleagues can talk, hopefully you will help him to understand the requirement, good luck.

P.S.
Something like what Ryan said. ;)

My 1st question would be which NEC are you guys in, in your area?

If in the 2002 then it would be required to bond the metal fausets to the pump motor as required in Art,680.74 but only if they were being fed by metalic pipe. If your in the 2005 & or the 2008 it would not be required to bond them to the pump motor unless they were in contact with the circulating water.
