Doing an LED retrofit in a bank. Popped a ceiling tile to bypass the ballasts in a couple PL cans. This is what I found.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is that equipment that's lying on the tile at the lower left by the open JB?

That's an upside down ballast

Look at the picture of the can to the right. It mounts to the 4" sq. box

luminaire on the right side of image has one "installed" on the j box.The ballast for the can light.
Hey I was going to mention that.I'd rather have clippings fall on me than rat and mouse turds.
The clippings are laying on tile the luminaire is installed in, tiles in the background don't have any clippings on them, don't have any luminaires installed in them either. Can't wire a luminaire that isn't there.so the original wiring and garbage was done after all the ceiling tile was in ??? sounds like a pita.

How else do you install recessed cans in a drop ceiling?
Certainly not with extra-hard usage cable, that's for sure. Gotta getcha some of that medium cable.
I think he saw in the scraps a piece of SO or SJ cable, but it could just be a piece of coax. We can't see up above and some of those scraps undoubtedly came from something besides those can lights.
And coke cans, dirt, even found newspapers there..so I could date when someone was thereThat's relatively clean for a dropped ceiling. Usually there's a million miles of abandoned data cable right above it.

You mean it would mount to the 4" square box if it were not so tedious to attach.....
