Someone else in here once told a story of an electrician who cut off the bottom 6' of an 8' ground rod and drove the rest of it into the earth. He tossed the cut off portion into the bushes right where the inspector driving up to the job could see it from his car. Oops.
 
Throwing away the excess that you cut off is for people who hate profit. Use it on the next job.

I don't know what this stamp is that you speak of, but I have never seen it and no inspector is going to lay on his belly to get his head down there close enough to find it.

A minute with the rotary hammer will deform the pointy end of the rod more than enough to make it look like the blunt end.

Well, OK, but what are you going to do with a hundred 2 foot pieces of #10? Splice them all together? :D
