Yeah, I imagine it still goes on somewhere. I had one tell me he wasn't beyond taking christmas presents-- that was 10 years ago-- I told him keep dreaming.

My goodness Dennis and Gus.....Yes it is my job! And it is the EC's job to do it per code. If the EC walks with me and we have simple items, fix it while I am there. If a serious issue comes up....Well, we discuss it, and schedule a re inspection.......

No. The job pays about $24k a year and its hard to find anyone that wants it, so they take what they can get. The chief electrical inspector makes somewhere between $35k-$40k. Considering the average pay for a helper here is $17k, that $24k looks pretty sweet to a lot of young guys.

In the county I live in, the BO makes $40k a year.

That should not even be legal to hire him. What he just did is set himself up for a liabilty suit.Your reputation is on the line over an unqualified inspector.Nice guy or not he needs to be qualified.Even if he backs down he cost you money.

Greg-- That's why I had smiley faces.:D I was riding you. I know many EC who want to walk thru with the inspector. Personally I am so good that they never find anything wrong. so why waste my time...:D

I can not imagine having to call every EC and go over there corrections with them, around here anybody can schedule an inspection, and the correction notice gets left at the site, maybe to a homeowner, GC or EC, if the contractor wants info on the correction, he can contact me I return every phone call, I am not chasing contractors around

Dennis....please come to work in DC and help a brother out... I guess I am too serious all the time....I need to loosen up. I wish my wife would ride me every now and then (regarding the above) so I could get my face outta this NEC, NECH, UL and ASME17.1...

scheduling with the contractor is nye impossible the way we inspect.. geographically.. a 10 min inspections turns into an hour and the schedule flies out the window.
normally,
if I find a problem, I write it up, often time with code reference numbers and tell the homeowner, if he asks, that there is a "minor thing the EC needs to address before it's 100% code."

the key is trying to avoid the occasional "what idiot wired this mess" :D

I may come visit. My daughter just accepted a job in DC. I am sure I will have to help her move. Maybe we can do lunch and have a chuckle or two. If I can't loosen you up then no one can.

I remember those days when I was 16 and working with my dad. He had to pay the inspector $10 or he would not do the inspection the next time you called. :D True story. NYC was incredibly corrupt back then.

I have never done a walk thru with an inspector. That's his job not mine...:D

"Sheriff! Sheriff! There's gambling in Mike's Casino!!!"

Talked to the inspector today. It seems I have now passed with flying colors! He admitted to me he didn't understand a couple of things about the install, and had some questions about it. I was a little perturbed that I got a red sticker instead of a phone call. My phone number was printed on the permit.
