Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

Where are you powering this ckt. from? You will certainly be creating a large magnetic field around the travellers when the lights are on.

My boss insists on installing dead-end switch legs with out nuetral conductors to save money. I disagree with the practice in new construction, but it is permitted in 404.2.

I don't know what a Californis three-way is. Would you please explain?

Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

I looked at the page and the schematic shows two, count 'em, two wires to the slave devices.

That's just weird.

How does the stinkin' thing work without a neutral?

It is never truly off, the electronics are in series with the load. Look out working on the load side of these.

Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

It's the crazy cooky magic of electronics. :)

The master only needs a signal.

Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

It's probably just changes states (on/off) every time you apply a line voltage at the yellow wire.

Oh. So that's why the dimmer has to be on the end.

Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

This wouldn't help my situation, though, would it? Since my ideal source of power and switchleg are in the four-gang box I can't access (without ripping the house down), the two conductors I have are still too few to make this happen, aren't they?

Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

George, it will only help if you can find another power source to feed the new switch location. If not I would suggest taking Pierre up on his offer.

Although technically unemployed, the Pope is nonetheless none the worse for his plight.

I, on the other hand, have 10 mouths to feed. :D

Put down the sledge and put your saw where I can see it, Pierre... :D

Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

Look at it this way, the plumber or HVAC guy would have no problem going where you fear to tred. What's the problem?

The customer has to be made to understand that if they want the switch there it's going to require some work to do it. If they would consider another location that work could be avoided. It's up to them and I certainly wouldn't be afraid to use my "little saw" or swing the sledge where necessary. It's all part of the job and if you can't bring yourself to "destroy" walls and ceilings perhaps you should limit yourself to new construction.

Re: I hate kitchen remodeling...

Maybe I am confused at this hour in the morning but if you pulled a 2 wire couldn`t you have pulled a 3 wire from new switch location to the can and added a 3 wire from existing switch location and made it up in the can,2 dead ended 3 ways,as far as using the neutral from a former circuit especially on different phases is trouble waiting to happen.Lose one neutral and what do you have on the 2nd white wire 120 volts looking for a place to return to.As stated in a remodel drywall damage is inevitable ;) As far as using a can as a j box watch capacity and to me it is cheezy but allowed.I have done it but as a last resort
