sounds like someones got a scoach of OCD. Dont worry we all go it a little. When ever I see plate screws not lined up or off sets in conduit not the same size I get the twichies myself.

When ever I have to make a splice in a panel I use these -

It just looks better than a wirenut.

You guys are right..
I inherited the problem, now I am just going live with it.

I am going to leave a note in the panel like e57 suggested, I just do not want anybody to think I did the work. I take pride in what I do, so yes it is personal.:D

Thanks
Bill

I'm sure some din rail terminal blocks would neaten it up quite a bit - but damned sure that will put you over fill.... But a simple note if it makes you feel better - like: "I'm not the hack who cut all the wire too short." can really ease the mind....

Recently I was tracing out a few panels trying to find a handfull of circuits... I found them all in the same box - all from different services where 'someone' had taken them all - tied all the nuetrals together in a 4 11/16 bx to j- box them and than ran them in NM through a concrete slab, and then did the same on the other end.... I assume the guys name was Tom - because when I opened the rock - there was "Tom" circled with an arrow pointing to the box on both sides of this fiasco... Obviously someone saw this work being done and wanted it to be known that 'Tom' did it... I wish they gave a last name too - because 'Tom' I would assume also thinks that service and feeders connections need only be finger tight.... I would like to hand him a doper on his head....

It is funny that other employees would drop a dime on tom however if his boss knew this nonsence was going on heads would roll.

To whom it may concern:
I only worked on circuits 3, 5, and 11.

I will hold him for you if you ever find him just let me know.

Per th OP: (That means original post correct?)

Anyone out there have a code reference I can use, I want to get this fixed ASAP

Bet you can find a UL violation though - is this an industrial control panel? Then I?ll bet you can find your answer in UL508A

I believe we are talking about a circuit breaker panelboard not an industrial control panel.

I have been arguing with an engineer at an existing facility

OK Clint (or Bob) but if it is the latter -

Good job Bill, it is incumbent upon you to challenge now and forever, it is everyone's job. Wire nuts let alone butt splices are bad news in control panels.

OK - guilty - I just read the rest of the thread, a panel board, I just jumped in because UL has become one of my lord and masters

Would someone please censor me when I say stupid stiff? geez already ....

No problem, I think everyone of us reads the threads with our own daily work on our mind. :)

Thanks Bob, very kind and spot on. This forum is very helpful. I just want to contribute when we cross over to UL from NEC. NEC is something I always need help with

Glad to have some info from that side.

I had actually forgotten that UL prohibited wire nuts from UL listed control cabs.
