we all are going to pay and pay and pay to exxon mobil and we will pay in reduced work loads as the customers are either going to do it them selves their own way or not do it at all..

Well if you're customers aren't, then you are paying for it, then you are out of business or just skating by.

Its time to raise your rates,as we get charged more from suppliers we in turn must charge more to our customers-its a never ending battle...

in the residential side, i've had several local contractors & realtors tell me that we (EC's) are going to just have to eat these costs. "People can't afford this stuff" they say. I've told those guys not to bother calling me after 01/01/09; seriously.

Right....Hire a contractor to install per code.....or hire a hack and best of luck.

Ops normal.

It is a never ending cycle.

I am sure electricians asked "Who is going to pay for all this stuff??" when the NEC required receptacles every 12' or when the NEC required a wall switched lighting outlet in every room.

I am sure carpenters asked "Who is going to pay for all this stuff??" when building codes called for stronger construction methods in homes or every time the price of lumber went up.

I am also sure every time this happened tradespeople where concerned that work would dry up because of it. No doubt it might slow things down for a short period but it all gets forgoten about with time.

We are still here wiring buildings and making money.

That's just funny right there, a realtor and a contractor giving us business advise. That's like letting a fox in the hen house.

I agree with Bob, all this will wash out. But those non manufactures, sane folks need to clamp be diligent with limiting some possible frivolous NEC proposed changes.

There may be a point where it may/can affect your bottom line permanently.

Or Pierre they are in total shock as they THINK life as they know it is at an end. Just watch ABC, CBS , CNN and the rest...America will never be the same our way of life is over, this is the 4th or 5th time I have heard the end is near since I started paying attention in 1968.

Yea I agree people move on and just start to pay..every wonder why our housing market is the way it is..start adding all the factors in; new building codes, plumbing codes, electrical codes, all the inspections, everyone wants a cut of the housing market, Realtors fee, home inspectors, banks get there cut..but jobs are what 12 to 15 dollars an hour..

Can the average person really afford 250,000 for a house in the MN TC area..what is the average cost of housing in your areas like New York city is it not around 350,000..yep the average couple with couple of kids making 50 thousand can afford that correct..

Somewhere some one has to stop and smell the roses..becasue you can legislate to much..and the market is now showing you how the inflated costs are effecting it..

So there is my rant on the subject of more regulation..

If a family of 4 were to live in the lower NY area and the household is making $50,000 a year, they would definitely not be living in a house.

Houses in this area still average start at 400K-500K, with taxes in the lower areas starting at around 8k-9k. I think the average taxes in my county are around 14k-16k per year.

Regulation/legislation is not the only thing driving house building costs....so is the greed of the builders/developers.
Do you ever wonder why the developers (take any of the larger developers) are listed on the stock market? and the electricians for those developments are being paid a mere pitance, as well as the other trades....
That is not a regulation/cost issue, that is greed with those at the top.

But they can afford to pay the realtor 3% to walk them through the house once and to fill out a few forms.

Steve

I just think that ALL TR and ALL either afci/gfci is kind of a big jump and some townships are already enforcing 08 by me. Especially when they dont seem to have worked out all of the bugs yet. This all piled on top of the other changes.
