I love that the water heater is turned up all the way to "Hot" as far as it will go. Do you think they used the other half of the license plate as a J-box cover some where in the house ?

If you stop and think about how long and what it took to fabricate the duct-taped breaker panel cover you have to laugh. I also like the chandelier. But the best one is the plumbing trap. Doesn't it serve the same purpose as long as it's somewhere in the drain line ???

Well there's really two problems with this side-ways-trap, first the trap it to catch and retain some of the passing waste water to stop sewer gas from backing up into the pipe. The second problem is there no vent to atmospere or Stubber vent right after the trap. The vent takes away the back flow gas to atmosshere and also takes the pressure off the trapped waste water, the waste water will be drawn out of the trap without a vent, making it useless!

Isn't the writing on appliance cords on the Neutral side, I know that the ridges are, did they hook that up right > ?

If the plug was polarized, one side (the neutral) would be wider. But I can't tell from the pix

Thank goodness you picked up on that. Someone might have taken me seriously.

Not sure if the polarity is backwards. I've got cords that have the printing on the non-ribbed conductor (must be hard to print on ribs?) The other wire's not even NM, it's stranded stuff, like FT4 speaker wire:

Does not compute! I can only assume that some appliance was removed and they used the NM to keep the gas fitting from sitting on the ground. Why would the gasfitter not have put the shutoff before the flex?

Poor man's space heater. Wonder how warm it gets from mutual heating?

Better than metal? Depends what's under the duct tape... If it's asbestos it IS better than metal. IMHO, asbestos wrapped in duct tape is ideal to contain arc blasts:

SURELY that's been there since 1903. NOBODY would commit such an atrocity in the 21st century :D Evidently they couldn't get their water hot enough so they must be trying to hold in more of the heat:

We all love handymen, don't we? One that sticks out in my mind was the ceiling fan I saw that a handyman installed on a plastic old work box.

This one was actually polarized correctly.

Not that it really mattered....

Ok so your saying they had a 50 / 50 chance, I'll give them 75/25 cause it looks like they used a groment in the box ! :)

Well, more like 25% - that was a cord, spliced to zip cord, into the 4" sq. No grommet - tape.
At least this was a demo job anyway....

I'll agree with the 50/50. Anyone who would hack this together won't know how to identify the ungrounded side of the zip cord in the first place.
