i have a ? in a self test book , the ? is in the overcurrent protection of conductors section. it reads "what size conductor is required for a 104a continous load?"

A question like that requires a lot of assumptions. I would assume 75?, assume copper, and not drop too much thought into it. With those assumptions, what do you come to?

Is it a multiple choice question? What are the choices? The question is missing too much information to properly answer it.

My immediate thought is THHN, copper, #1. But maybe the question is really asking about aluminum. :-?

Ditto.

I am of the opinion that when it isn't specifically referred to, aluminum isn't part of the question, in the spirit of 110.5 - but that's just my opinion. For that to work, the test writer would have to agree with my thinking. :)
