:D Heh!

Think of the gnarled wood of the trunk of a tree as it transitions into the roots. Gnarl is the root of gnarly.

Gnarly became popular back in the '60s with the surfing culture of California and quickly became popular parlance. It is a term for extreme challenge, or extreme danger, or extreme beauty, or combinations of these.
Wicked!!

Yes that's the one. I had mine for just a very short time before I lost it and never replaced it, so I cannot verify it working well long-term. It worked good on the little bit of 14/2 UF cable that I had to strip.

I have a pair of Crocs wire strippers with a built-in NM sheath cutter in the nose. Never tried it on UF, don't carry it in my tool bag anymore.

If you do cut the ceiling cut it big so you have plenty of working room. Just think like a plumber who cuts out 4' to run a 1/2" water line!

Gnarly, adjective: difficult, dangerous, or challenging.

also

Slang particularly popularized by US surfculture in the 1970s

also US offroad culture adopted it during the same time period.

google "gnarly jeep trail" and you get a list....

please note, gnarly jeeping started for a week in moab, utah today,
and i am not there in attendance. i am reconsidering this, as i have
zero work booked, and am considering it a divine sign that i should
drive out there and watch the madness.

Good grief...why are you home? Are you waiting for permission? Consider it granted.
