I was looking at a brand new 09 GMC Savana 1500, .
3/4 ton minimum, 1 ton if you can do it. Besides being tagged to carry more weight you get better brakes, better cooling, larger axles etc.

Bought a Volvo for $500 under invoice last year right about when car sales crashed... Asked a simple question - "Wanna sell it or not?" Which turned out to be a very reluctant yes.A car salesman telling you he's selling you a brand-spanking new van for 600 bucks less than the dealer paid for it.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
Well.....I vote to get the biggest baddest meanest truck availiable......
Remember....A heavy truck can do the job of a light one....but a light one cant usually do the job of a heavy one.....

I don't know if you can get a 3/4 ton on the CARS program. We are trading in two 3/4 ton trucks and all they will let us have are 1/2 ton pickups or small vehicles on the CARS program.
I can't believe the government has gotten in the used car business!
