I would like to know where in the current NEC it states that in a sub panel application grounds ands neutrals must be seperated
I would like to know why in a sub panel that grounds and neutrals can not be tied together is there a code to reinforce this

250.24(A)(5) Load-Side Grounding Connections.
A grounded conductor shall not be connected to normally non–current-carrying metal parts of equipment, to equipment grounding conductor(s), or be reconnected to ground on the load side of the service disconnecting means except as otherwise permitted in this article.

also, if connected together the neutral current will flow through the ground wire and possibly any other grounded metal item and who knows what's going to happen.

Not only in the current NEC, this requirement goes back the the beginning of the NEC.
