Exactly. If I went to one of these meetings, with the actual NEC, I'd probably be run out of town.

You might want to try one and take your NEC with you. Most have code panels with question and answers . One of the best meetings that I went to Mike Holt was the main speaker.

Have you been to an IAEI meeting?
Nope.

Do you attend any industry related meetings?
Nope.

Are any industry related meetings available to you?
On occasion, I see flyers or receive them in the mail for the occasional function that I'd have to shell out $100 to attend. The last one I glanced at was around noon on a workday at a hotel in Denver, which is over an hour from my house. I just glanced at their site and didn't see any other events to attend.

I think that I understand you may be out from the mainstream where you live/work
That very well could be, but ECs differ from AHJs in that they do not usually allocate company time <edit: and money> to attend seminars, classes and business lunches - at least not in my area.

Again, I'm not "against the IAEI", I just don't benefit much from their existence presently as an outsider and don't understand the benefit to joining. From the outside looking in, it looks kinda like student council. ;)

Way to go IAEI

Way to go IAEI

Every organization has been hit by the same financial situation as individuals have.

What some may not realize is the history of the IAEI and their contribution to the industry as a whole.

It may say annual dues or membership, but it really is much more than that.
So, if the financial situation has not hit too hard, think about the membership, as it is definitely more than just a magazine.

You're so right, Pierre. In terms of education, they were the only show in town for a good many years. It was only due to "political" staffing on the local Chapter E-Board that IAEI's local popularity and usefulness waned.

The "Mothership" is still alive and doing well. I hope and pray that the local Chapter will again someday rise to prominence and actually be staffed with electrically knowledgeable and competent personnel and reclaim its' rightful place among the venerated institutions within the electrical industry in Northern New York.

The "Analysis of Code Changes" work that they do is second to none. Kudos for the IAEI!

Yes. FREE + $8.00 shipping. = NEC from the IAEI.

Bryan,

I thought I read somewhere, possibly another post in this forum, That you had to be a member for a certain # of years to receive the free NEC?

A second question is this offer for all members or just Inspector members?

As for the membership I feel it is a worth while investment. I have not had the opprotunity to take full advantage of the membership but I have attended a couple of seminars sponsered by the area chapters and found them to be excellent.

Thanks for all the comments. The intent of this topic was to simply advise you of fee changes for IAEI membership and NOT to get into a discussion about the good and bad or worth of the association.

Your questions regarding this matter or any other aspect of the IAEI should be directed to Annette Thomas as indicated in the opening post.

Take care and have a great weekend.
