I am a home inspector in the state of Georgia. Although Georgia doesn't require a certification, lately I have lost several inspections due to me not being certified on the ICC one and two family dwelling test.

I have checked with students that have attended schools that offer training for the test and they recommend I study on my own and save my money.the training didn't help them pass the test.

I have been a school trained certified Inspector for over 7 years.

Any ideas on the best way to prepare for the exams. I have ordered the 2006 one and two family dwelling book and study guide. Any help will be appreciated.

bryan,
You would have loved the old ICBO tests. Two stages: 50 closed book questions and 50 open book questions (exact numbers may be wrong). Now that was a challenge. I think the IAEI tests are a joke as well. At least they were 20 years ago and 10 or so years ago the plans examiner test was also(didn't even get any plans).
On the other hand, the renewal used to be a joke, a 50 question take home test. Now you need CEU's to renew which I think is better. Continuing education is important.
My electrical inspectors test was 100 questions closed book 1.5 hour time limit. Then 50 questions open book w/ 2.5 hours. As far as some of the CEU's go, One ICC conference I attend (every other year), is a joke, All you need to do is pay your money, go to the desk, check in, then do what you want for however many days you have classes. No one takes a roll call. Wait a few days & your CEU's come in the mail.

Jrules, I have moved your question to it's own thread, as the one you posted in was ancient and it's confusing to revive old threads unnecessarily.

I was hopelessly puzzled when Bryan Holland said he'd taken the electrical exams 10 days ago, when he's been certified for three years. :D

I'd tell you via private messaging, but you have it shut off. Hopefully you find this thread all right, and welcome to the forum.
