PS#4? Oh man I was out at standby #2 just the other day...I should have stoped by. :grin:

You guys are too far north for me , I can't stand temps for long under 50 F .
Why don't they have a degree character/symbol on the keyboards ?

Carl :cool:

Talk about being dissed...

Bob,

You didn't even care enough to swing in for cup of coffee!

As for temps, they make symbols...

Look up the ASCII Code chart, there is 256 charters holding down Alt key and punch a number, This software hands the ? symbol as well a others. The ASCII sysmbols are controlled internally by the software so the Chart my vary above your basic Keyable strokes (the keys you can see outright)

Your 256 characters is approx. equal to lower and upper case letter's and number of 0-9, and includes Hyphens and Vowel pronoucment characters on Letters IE ?,?,?. It might also include TM symbol, copyright symbol, but again is all how the program is set up.

Hold Down ALT KEY, press 167 = ?
Enjoy

In that all areas are not the same as far as codes, inspections, licensing, wiring methods, terminology, language, etc... I would also suggest that all members disclose their location.

In earlier versions of the forum location was shown for all members, I don't know why it was done away with.

I've noticed that only one member in this thread doesn't have his location shown, hopefully most will include this in their information.

Anyone interested in having free software that will show you all 256 characters of any font, PM me with your email address. I have a simple, freeware program that gives you the number for each character

BTW, '?' is 0176, not 167.

...
Roger

I always think Roger lives in Normally Closed. Then the brain kicks in and corrects me.

3?. Wow, I did it! (it's alt-0248 for those of you who don't want to be bothered with a chart or freeware app)

That works for most standard "text" fonts. But do you have Wingdings? Greek C? Bar Code? MS Reference? Most folks do, and this program will show you the number needed to get the character you want for that font, and it works for all the fonts you have on your computer (musical notes, cartography symbols, math, geometry, etc.)

Oh,

Oh,

? ?
alt 167 = ?
alt 0176 = ?

well my 167 works ... frankly I thought I stumbled into that in the High numbers using 0_ _ _.
As said it all depends on software to assigned characters that will be presentable here or verses retime. Mileage may vary.

only one question i need to ask you on this one.,, how you can find the Delta format on alt key ?? i try to come up two diffrent numbers but it dont match with me so if you have a idea please do pass it here.

Merci, Marc

I'm not seeing that on any of the fonts that are available here. I'm still looking for it, though.

Maybe it's your operating system?

So what's the trick if you have a laptop without the numerical pad? The numbers on top don't work at all. On my desktop no problem because it has the numerical keypad.

some of what one might need : or even see

alt 155 ? cents (Sign)
alt 156 ? Pound
alt 157 ? Yen
alt 158 ₧ points
alt 159 ? Function or Franks (not sure)
alt 160 ? phonics
alt 246 ? division

alt 250 ? muplitier
alt 251 √ square root
alt 252 ⁿ Nth power
alt 253 ? squared power
alt 254 ■ (block head)
alt 255 (blank as is 256)

To compare:

alt 0156 = ?
alt 0157 = ?
alt 0158 = ?
alt 0159 = ?

I beleive that both Alt and Alt0_ _ _ have direct input, opening up the usage of show characters aboves.

It comes down to how this Software uses an ASCII character, what version they used or to say as it was "called" in the software when it was compiled.

Both cycle through your keyboard key strokes theres 256 characters allowed, they filled up the system with other needed and not so needed symbols.

Different software will show differnet characters based on the Ascii, even the software version your using, hopefully no ones still on 64 bit!

Turn on the number lock function first, then use the M, J, K, L, U, I, O, 7, 8 ,9 keys. Thus ?.

instering ones to see that and seems that some of the computer and keyboard dont really match all each other when some suggest it.

but here my common ones it work here.,

alt key + number = new symbol

Alt0216= ? [phase ]
Alt0176= ? [ degree ]
Alt0177= ? [ plus/minus sign ]
Alt0188= ?
Alt0189= ?
Alt0190= ?
Alt0247= ?
Alt0162= ?
Alt0149= ? sorta like a dot in the middle:rolleyes:

hope this will help ya some of it

Merci, Marc
