#20 is how I do it and if pvc tape one of the phases red and tie to ground then go to panel and check easy

Everyone seems to think the OP is asking about identifying the conductors at the other end. That's not what he is asking. He wants to identify them, midway, in the pull box.
I will say that is unnecessary and not something I would worry about.

Sorry did not read,a toner would work for that or a wiretracer.
Looks nicer if the j-box is colored correctly
