Since we're talking bout it... I have started noticing that there seems to be much more focus on grammer or spelling or if a poster is exactly the "master" he claims to be and if the "master" asked the question exactly correctly, then it turns into a pissing contest and then I have to read 2 pages about how someone is more of a smart@$$ than the other and on and on and on, it gets old fellas. Just seems to me that those of us with not so much free time could care less about some of those irrelevant details, I do understand details are very inportant when doing electrical work and understanding the NEC but there are plenty details that just seem to belittle the forum in general, alright have at it gentleman, I am sure there are a few of you out there that anticipate posts that you can try to hack to pieces for one irrelevant reason or another. I guess my somewhat vague point was that it can cause people, even skilled people, to be apprehensive to post or ask questions and the focus turns to defending yourself and if your perfectly qualified to ask the question, or if the wording was just right, I have been fortunate enough to not have been too ridiculed from you guys unnecessarily, there have been plenty of times I deserved the ridicule or pursuit of the right information. I have needed a good cuff upside the head on several occasions, and the good people here have seen to it that I received it.

I think basically what it comes down to is if someone comes prancing in, makes erroneous statements and then closes their ears to reasonable responses, it's human nature to begin repeatedly slapping that individual upside the head until they begin to see reason.

I follow what you are saying and agree to a point. However, for the situations when I have seen someone get hammered, it pretty much has been self-inflicted. I believe the forum community is very diverse in background, experience and education. I feel the moderators do a very good job of filtering what stays active and only step in when appropriate and the members who regularly contribute seem to truly want to help. Having said that though there is a fine line between being useful and being used and it appears that line is pushed at times by people looking for information. It is one thing to say, "I am not sure of ...." and another thing to say, "Tell me how to do this ..." and your profile says you are an electrician!?
With respect to the issue of proper grammar and spelling, they are minor and it can be nit picky to slam someone for them. However, the text editor does have a spell checker. IMO it doesn't matter if you are a 1st year apprentice or PhD level EE, you should make an attempt to act in a professional manner when dealing with the public. Would you give someone a quote or report with spelling or grammar errors?

Some of the Forum members have been contributing on a regular basis for years.
Some of which, although they may have never met in person, concider themselves friends.
They also have individual personalities.
Some questions that are posted have been covered 20 or 30 times, and in some cases, a 100.
There are no membership fees to be a member of the site, and so any info given or received is free.
There is some level of fun involved and if it gets out of hand, a moderator will step in.
Not only do they close threads, but in some cases, they will change wording, delete a post, and in severe cases delete an entire thread.
And Scott is always thinking of the little man.

Oh gee, I almost missed this thread. Let's see. We have a bunch of people that can't seem to follow simple instructions, ie: NEC. Then when their muddled minds combine with the others on this forum we have the obvious "blind leading the blind". Now we have the whiners that think they are being picked on. By the way, not to pick on you or anything, but you have three punctuation errors in your post.
That's the first time I have heard anyone describe the NEC as "simple instructions." For starters, the NEC does not consist of instructions; it consists of rules. But more importantly, I strongly suspect that not even its authors would describe it as "simple."
