Other than Physical strength are there any benefits from using RMC vs IMC? In a wet location will IMC rust out faster? IT seems where RMC is required IMC is accepted. ??????

Re: IMC vs RMC

IMC does rust faster then rigid.

IMC does seem to be accepted as a like for like replacement for rigid, although it is not.

Edit to say it kinks easier too.

Re: IMC vs RMC

IMC is lighter, cheaper and easier to bend with a hickey. But depending on it's size it may not be as readily available as RMC.

Re: IMC vs RMC

thankyou we should be alright running 2in will be using all fittings and sweeps. as for the rusting??? wasn't my idea to use this crap. lots of water and steam oh boy

Re: IMC vs RMC

1973 here went from rigid in explosion proof world then moved to florida in 82 PVC and romex rule :D :D ;)

Re: IMC vs RMC

You might also notice that RMC can either be ferrous or non-ferrous (aluminum). IMC can only be ferrous.
In my experience, aluminum can work very well in a wet environment. But be alert to any chemicals that may contaminate the wet area.
Example: Outdoors, exposed to rain, the AL does just fine. In a chemical plant, it might be a problem.(and don't use it underground.)

Re: IMC vs RMC

we should probably be running rigid . But the IMC i think is already ordered. as for pvc nahhhh overhead cranes with 2 ton bucket hanging off of it. ohhh yeah chemical galore with pH levels all over the place pretty nasty hate to see it all rust up

Re: IMC vs RMC

Other than lower ability to withstand getting crushed I would tend to choose PVC because of the acids and bases "pH all over the place"

What about heat - you got that issue also??

So the choice I see
metal pipe rusts rots out every (??) years.
PVC gets mangled
No magic answer I guess

OCAL!!! :D

Re: IMC vs RMC

We need PVC coated RMC, that is coated in RMC of course to keep the outer layer of PVC from getting banged up, covered by another layer of PVC to prevent the RMC from rusting ect ect ect.
