in-line timers

I want to put in-line timers between the electric outlet and the battery chargers for my cordless tools. For some reason, no one puts a timer on their power tool battery chargers. I find this could waste electricity and, possibly damage the batteries. Any suggestions for a brand of timer or, other discussions about this subject will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
