Do we have to use in use covers in a commercial plant. I am working in a meat packing plant where they wash the wall down daily? If so do they make a metal one?

I think it would be a good idea to use the "in use cover" in a meat processing plant. wither you are required or not.

Also, I like the Lexan ones better than the metal, but yes - they make metal.

I was always under the impression that in use covers were for devices that may get wet while in use or plugged in. Some inspectors say you have to put in use covers on temporary power poles. Our inspector says that most of the time the contractors unplug their extension cords at night or in the event of rain from the power pole so a simple weatherproof cover works.

I like the in use covers myself they just seem a little pricey and almost always get broken.

You need to look at 406.8(B)(1)&(2). Depending on which condition you have will tell you which type of cover is required.

Just seems these covers would last about 10 minutes . Do they make one that would house a 60 amp plug metal or plastic?
