In wall splice kit

What are your thoughts on using an approved in the wall splice kit for (2) 14/2 NmM cables.

They look cheesy to me.

Any thoughts welcome

My sister in law bought a new double wide many years ago, the shower had a leak, and while the mh tech had the wall open, there was an open splice that was taped up. They didn’t even bother using one of those.

No way, I would just bury a regular box instead of using those. I have always said that if you are not confident enough in your splices to bury a J-box, then you need to re-evaluate your career choice. IMO the rule against covering over j boxes is dumb too.

Covered j boxes. Small rural church had a parishioner donate his skills. O boy.

If everyone making splices were competent I would agree but many are not, even some seasoned electricians. Found this in a basement where uncle Bubba said that "he know electric". It was energized without a cover. He actually did pretty good with the twisting.Work Stuff 024.JPG

I've used in-wall splice kits from Tyco and NSI

I never had a problem at all with Tyco

NSI had a fail rate of about 50% that I knew of. The crimps inside would get smashed out of shape. I did a bathroom where I used 4 of them instead of tearing out drywall. 3 of them burned up and I tore out drywall to rewire the lights on the finish 🫣

I hate the tycos I've found them on 2 service calls broken. When an accessible box has a bad splice you fix it when something like a tyco goes then you need to cut the wall or ceiling. There's always a way to do it right.

I'd be willing to put one semi accessible like behind a bathroom mirror but still that'd be a last resort.

My house was built in 55'. I bought it in 86'. I lived there probably 5 years when I took a metal cover off an octagon box in the basement, and it looked something like the picture Infinity posted. 3 AC cables neutrals and hots twisted together perfectly but no wire nuts. I wonder how long it had been that way.....probably since the house was built
