if you have suspended, fluorescent row lites that have inboard/outboard switching (separate ballast for inboard and outboard), and the ckts feeding the outboard are fed with normal power, and the inboard are fed with emergency power ( gen backup), can I use the 14/5 cord, that was supplied by the lighting manufacture, in this application? If so the cord would have to come into a common junction box. Please list applicable code sec, thanks!

First of all is this really Emergency Lighting per article 700 or is it under 701 or 702? If it is article 700 and you are switching the EM lamps, you will still have to provide a means to comply with 700.17.

You will also have to meet the requirments of 700.9(B)

I wire (on the E-dwgs) emer & normal loads in the same fixture with separate wiring & circuits, and I always use #12 AWG minimum. Also have a note
for a sticker on the fixture to notify owner that this fixture is connected
to (2) branch circuits...
