We have been asked to bid a rewire on a house built in 1873 in Indiana, now my question is since I live in Kentucky and have a state license how do I go about getting licensed in Indiana since they don't have a "state" licenseing program? Is it a local test? or will they except my KY license which I don't really see happening.
If its a local test is it local by city or by county?
I called some of the local guys and they haven't come across this yet any help would be appreciated.

Why not call the local jurisdiction where the house is located and find out from them what is required. Some areas don't have a license requirement but if it's anything like here ( I'm going back a few years ) a permit may be required and some sort of local business license. You never know until you ask.

Even with a state license its good to call and see what is reqiuired by the local jurisdiction. In this state you run into local bonding issues.

Don't forget that when you work out of state that your insurance needs to cover out of state work and you are required to file taxes for any money made in that state. I have had to file in a half dozen states in one year.

You are correct, we do not have statewide licensing. Go to the city where you will be working and inquire at the municipal building if it is large enough to have an organized city government. In lieu of that, go to the courthouse in the county in question to inquire.

The smaller populated areas only require a bond and insurance for you to do any contracting work, no tests or proof that you are capable. Larger cities, Indianapolis, Richmond, Ft. Wayne, Bloomington, etc. require a license. Some will reciprocate, others will not. Those that will not reciprocate will require you to pass a test to obtain your local license. Sorry, you will have to do the leg work. :)

Growler I'm glad you brought up insurance!
This job is for Rockport In. not sure if its in the city or county yet when I do the walk through I'll find out I'll call the courthouse after lunch and find out all I can.
thanks for pointing me in the right direction...
