Look at 406.3(A) and (E). Note that 406.3(A) seems to be in conflict with my position on using a 50A receptacle on a 15A branch circuit.

Thanks Don, For what it is worth I talked to a former chief editor of the NFPA-NEC Hand book and he thinks it is also a violation of 210.21 That the intent was 15 amp ocd ,15amp single receptacle.Use a #6 with pig tails but it is a 15 amp receptacle. 50 amp receptacle outlet 50 amp individual branch circuit.General rule.He compared this with the temp rating the lowest temp rating is what we must use. he called it the"weakest link approach"I mentioned field installations, He said make sure your insurance is paid.

That may be the intent, but that is not what the words say and it is very difficult for an AHJ to enforce intent. The section needs to be revised.

Perhaps Don, But maybe(210.21(B)(1) is nothing more than a statement of a mandatory requirement,so electricians won't protect a 15 amp single receptacle on an i.b.c. with a 20 amp o.c.d. Like they are allowed to on a multi-outlet branch circuit.. I think if we focus on what is written as opposed to what is not, it becomes easier to interpret.
