Re: Industry Plant Safety Practices

There are several companies that specialize in NFPA 70E training course for industrial applications. I recommend using a company that specializes in this type of training as thier core business, not a "oh yeah, we can do a class for you" type of outfit.

Try doing a web search for NFPA 70E training, there are alot of good ones out there.

Re: Industry Plant Safety Practices

Where I work I started pushing for safety training after the 2002 NEC redefined what it was to be a considered a "qualified person". After attending on of their courses, I lobbied for and finally brought in an instructor from the same national training organization for onsite training of all electrical workers in this industrial site. Cost/benefit ratio rationalization? Let's face it, money drives business. One severe injury or death will potentially cost the company far more than the cost of training and purchase of PPE. Personally, for whatever reason the company does it, I now work in a place where no one is going to expect me to do something dangerous because of expediency. :D

Thanks again for all your replies! I'm in the process of bringing an awareness to the folks I work for and with and this proves to me it's worth pursuing.

I'm the safety steward for the union I belong to. We just had an OSHA consultation on an electrical safety issue. The consultant said that NFPA 70E is going to be the standard for electrcial safety. And he siad it was complicated, but complete.
Try to get an OSHA consultation. They will come and point out problems before the compliance division comes out and cites the company for the violations.
