Raise your hand if you've been injured by hand tools.

Shearing a screw with my strippers one time when my thumb got in the way and I also sheared through my left thumb. The end of my thumb held together by #8, #6, #10 and #12 guage pieces of flesh.

Cutting tape from a roll of 1/2 flex and sliced through the end of my middle finger with my razor knife moments after installing a fresh blade. Deep cut. 4 stitches. I couldn't flip other drivers the bird for weeks. :D

I wear my gloves a bit more now.

Care to share your safety record with hand tools?

Right here.
Cut a piece of 500 with bypass type shears (non ratchet, so I needed both hands on the tool) and had the cut end of the 500 whip up and smack me in the face and give me a fat lip. Not so many hand tool injuries, though. Had a pair of needle-nose break while I was (mis)using them, and I pinched my fingers. A couple nice knife snafu's too, and that's about it.

I've been reloading alot on band-aids lately!
Just put the tip into my finger tip, last week...

I'll usually stop and wash it off (if avaiable) but alway bandage.

Put someone at easy and reach for wallet and pull out a Band-Aid ! :)

FYI - proxicide is only good for use at first cut, @ secondary cleaning using it just kills your own re-growth.

As a apprentice I smashed by left wrist with a no bounce 20 times a day for weeks, I swear it still hurts. Oh the mechanic forgot the exterior light boxes during brick veneer.

Drove a screw driver into my palm loosening a screw. Cut my thumb tip off, cut two finger tips off, cut all the tendons for my thumb on my right hand, 2nd degree burns both hands, several stitches oh slit my wrist with a fixture.

The plastic surgeon that did the work on my hands told me next time find another surgeon.

If you can tell me how to post a color slide, you can see what a table saw can do.

Same exact thing happened to me. It still gives me chills.

I had the end of a nailbiter catch my left middle finger due to a brain fart.

Held my thumb to guide a makita sawzall once between the fence against the blade directly, because if I made a perfect cut I could use both pieces and save the boss lots of money. When I pulled the trigger I realized the chuck was hidden up in the tool. Now my thumb is about 3/4" thick and I know know the clearance in a makita brand sawzall from the bottomed out chuck to the fence is about 1/4". It also has a small hole in the fence which punched out a nice piece of round meat from the center of my thumb gives me a very interesting fingerprint. I lost all nerve endings for about 5 yrs and it has been slowly coming back for annother 5 yrs. I think I have starfish dna somewhere in my lineage. It is not perfect but I am glad it is still there. OUCH!!! Lots more motorcycle and skiing accidents that were a lot more fun. I actually at one time was looking directly at my heart pumping in my ripped open chest thinking this is really bad the good lord spared me so I could be on Mike Holts Forum.

What is it about seeing you own blood spill that makes a person dizzy?
I don't know about dizzy, but there is that time delay period where it doesn't hurt yet. You're looking at your own wound, thinking to yourself, "Man, that's gonna really hurt here in about a minute".

Let's keep photos of injuries out of this one.

Might be in bad taste

Thanks,

Had a hole hawg catch once and wrap the cord around my wrist until the cord broke and killed the juice to the saw. 4 month recovery to full use.

Let's see....

Pinch fingers with T-strippers - check.
Cut/stab myself with utility knife - check.
Beat left thumb with hammer - check.

Stiches - twice on job sites. Both times from HVAC sheet metal with raw edges.

I don't know if this counts. Is a 1 man auger a hand tool? You know the type that has the lawnmower motor on one end and the auger on the other. We were repositioning this when someone dropped the 12" auger. It pinched my index finger and broke the tip off. It was held on by the nail. THey had to rip the nail off and stitch the tip back together. They then sewed the nail back on. THAT HURT A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then again there is something about those simple slices like a paper cut that hurts SOOOOOO bad especially in the palm or between thumb and index finger.

When I took the finger tips off I was afraid to look at it, when I finally did I remember thinking, damn you really screwed up this time. Then the pain set in.
