Inspector change

Hi, I recently ran into a problem with an inspector. I had 2x2 flourescent fixtures mounted in a suspended ceiling. They were cord and plug connected above the ceiling with a 14 gauge SJT cable. The ceiling is a plenum ceiling. The inspector told me I could not do this. Why? I thought SJT was rated for plenum.

The inspector is correct, see Table 400.4 and 400.8(5)

The Inspector has it right. You may install a receptacle above a drop ceiling, but you may not plug a flexible cord into it. Kind of a Catch-22 isn't it?
