Hmph ... appears to me he may be right. Only thing is he hasn't declared the Group and "T" rating.

Re: Inspectors Authority

The brief dialogue above regarding Classified locations does illustrate an important concept for this thread. The alleged ?unusual? interpretation is perfectly reasonable within the text of the Code. Classified (and classifying) locations is one of the few subjects where I?ve found otherwise knowledgeable AHJs to be excessive. The tendency for anyone, AHJ or otherwise, with an unfamiliar subject like this is to become unnecessarily conservative.

BTW ?fart motors? are available. They are used in sewer ventilation systems and are listed under UL category code "PTDR." Farts are both Groups "C" (Hydrogen Sulfide) and "D" (Methane). Motors with a "Class B" temperature rise will meet the T2B "T-rating" required for H2S :D

Re: Inspectors Authority

Sometimes the AHJ and their superiors take the letter of the law and want to strech it beyond belief. In our residental work we have #3 part inspection 1 - PVC/slab 2 - uffer/rough 3 - final.
On the rough in we are required to cut the uffer below grade (Here for now the uffer is a 20 ft # 5 rebar tied into the footer and stubbed below the service area) and have it exposed for rough in inspection. To verify if ground clamp is tight.OK that`s fine and cut to protect the EGC. But now they want us to expose the uffer on a final after it is signed off. :p .
