Install 8 L6-30Rs next to each other or in a matrix

I am specifying a project (I am not an electrician) and inquiry how to surface mount up to 8 L6-30Rs on a plywood wall. These will be servicing PDUs in racks.

The servicing panel is on the same wall about 5 feet away. I cannot use a distribution system in the racks as the racks and PDUs may be changed out in the future, thus using PDUs with 10' whips from the racks to the wall using ladder or cable tray to manage the whip cables.

Is there a work box or enclosure that can accommodate multiple L6-30Rs or would I need a separate 4X4 work box for each outlet?
 
We would just nipple several 4 11/16" boxes together with a home-run conduit back to the panel from each group.

8 PDUs and 8 racks or 8 and 2?

Nothing wrong with changing things out in the future; chances are that'll happen anyway (IME).

Assuming these "whips" are actually cable from the PDU and not some form of flex conduit.

I would have the 30R's mounted at ladder/tray level directly behind the rack they serve if the tray goes to the wall from each rack (to support the cable). Otherwise, I'd put them next to where the tray hits the wall and run to each rack. Beware of bending radius for the cable/whips, assume at least 12".

There's probably something else but I'm pressed for time now.
 
Personally I think it would be easier to just hardwire them. It's a lot of work to put in plugs and receptacles. It's also a point of potential failure.

I think you're making this harder than it needs to be. Unless you need the plugs because you're constantly unplugging the thing for some reason, I'd be inclined to just run a piece of flexible conduit or MC.

It won't take a whole lot to disassemble it if you ever need to.
 
Putting a 4" square box near and behind each rack is what i would want. With a 10 foot PDU cord, these receptacles cant be too far from each rack by the time its cord comes out the rack, over to the wall, then down and over to its receptacle.

Racks are about 2 feet wide, so nipple the receptacle boxes about every 2 feet unless a rack needs more than one receptacle.

Be aware that many times someone will stick something in that rack that is 120V only and you cant get that from a 6-30 pdu. So they may want some 5-20s near the rack cluster too.
 
Thanks everyone for the ideas. Hardwire is not an option since the PDUs have plugs and I need to keep them UL listed and under warranty (switched PDUs $$$). I will have my electrician mount the L6-30Rs in individual 4-11/16 boxes with shortest nipple between them he/she can use just above the overhead 2" x12" cable tray. Four at one location and two 5 feet away.

The set of four vertical PDUs have 10' cords and they will be just long enough to go across the cable tray and turn left/right to a series of three cabinets.

The set of two horizontal PDUs have 15' cords and are on a longer cable tray but still reach.

All of our equipment is variable voltage (100 - 240) and I will have 120V convenience outlets on the wall as well.
