Hello

So I am going to move a 600 amp ct cabinet with meter attached from the side of a house 250' to the back of the 8- car garage. I've spoken to the inspector and he said I didnt need a main disconect in the ct cabinet and that the existing main disconnect inside the house would suffice as the main diconnecting means even though the meter cabinet is behind the garage out of sight and way far from the house. Im sure that there should be a diconnect in the ct cabinet and I told him this but he said not to worry about it so I wont becuase im just gonna use the existing cabinet now which is far less expensive.

There will be a directional bore with 2-3" poly pipes going from existing ct location to the new spot behind the garage. I am pulling 3-350 mcm thhn thru the poly and sleeving down from ct cabinet and at the point where the main exits the via LB's and two IMC sleeves to underground.

Do I need to run any other wire with the 3-350's like eg or gec or will the neutral suffice here?

If there are any other flaws in this proposed installation feel free to let me know.

I had a similar question a few months ago. We are doing a house with CT cabinet mounted on exterior wall and 600 amp disconnect for ATS and house panels in interior mechanical room. Conduits run from CT under garage floor and up into mechanical room. After conversations here and with local inspector, a 3-wire pull from ct to disconnect and 4-wire from there was agreed upon.

Here is my drawing of the install...

I mechanically installed bonding lug to inside of CT for GEC and a bonding jumper for POCO to tie to the grounded conductors. I do not remember what the insp. and I agreed upon for the bonding jumper size. I think he told me a #6 would suffice, but I believe I ended up putting in a larger.* I do not remember.

*I left my code book at the office and do not remember the Art. 250 table and sections. Sorry. I'll go do my 3 laps around the house now.

My gosh is this just a stupid topic or can we discuss this?

My answer is no EGC. Bond at the first disconnect and go from there. Your disconnect needs to be where the SE conductors enter the structure.
