What is IP required for outdoor generator, Is there IP required for any outdoor generator as per NEC

We don't use IP (ingress protection) ratings in the US. The first number is protection against solids and the second against liquids with the higher number providing the most protection.
We use enclosure type ratings (NEMA rating)as found in 110.28. I don't think a generator has a type rating, just like a motor does not have a type rating.

Here is a comparison chart between the two rating systems.
I don't think it is completely accurate as a NEMA 12 is dust tight and should have 6 as the first number, and the protection for liquid entry is the same for a NEMA 4 and 4X. 4X just adds corrosion protection. NEMA 6P would be an IP68.

IP10NEMA 1
IP11NEMA 2
IP14NEMA 3R
IP52NEMA 5, NEMA 12, NEMA 12K
IP54NEMA 3, NEMA 3S
IP65NEMA 4
IP66NEMA 4, NEMA 4X
IP67NEMA 6, NEMA 6P
