Installation standards

Is there a "Standard of Electrical Installation" that is a guide to the installation of electrical systems and equipment? Specifically I am concerned with underground conduit placement, routing and installation.

NECA is putting together stanards for installations, I have not reviewed or seen any just word of mouth check their web site.

You can also take a look at www.nema.org . There are standards there for equipment that may help...most are free to download.

I bought the NECA standard for installing rigid conduit. It was about $25 for a thin pamphlet. And I thought $50 for an NEC was a ripoff! NECA should be ashamed of pricing like that.

The NEC should be ashamed of refering to the NECA documents in FPN's.

Simply stating "300.5 Covers U/G installations" does not answer the question that was asked. Such as, what if the conduit is crossing over, under, or running parallel to a steam pipe? What about raceway under roadways, or conduits entering manholes? Where is that in 300.5.

There are books that can provide guides and details, such as "Handbook of Electrical Design Details" . Also, local utility and municiple companines, as well as institutions such as universities sometimes have published information regarding underground installations, search the internet for these.

It opens dialogue. Not picking on the OP, but have no idea of the individual's use, and familiarity with a code book. So gave him the article to start with.

Thanks for your input and help guys. I have a contractor that is installing numerous sized conduits below a slab. He has run he conduits on the earth, crossing and criss-crossing them as he headed back to the panel location. Concuits cross each other on top of sub-foundations, and even through framed block-outs for column supports. At the panel location, conduits are actually bundled together. Luckily we discovered this before the 4" of gravel was installed and concrete slabs poured. If you would like a picture, send me your email address.
