Re: Installing receps in block walls

Bob, I had the inspector out on a "consultation" permit. He would rather (not to read "required") that there were some mechanical means of securing the box. So we agreed to use Carlon plactic "cut-in" (or "old-work") boxes. The other concerns still applied. So I had my helper cut the holes (14 single gang and 5 double gang) using a 4" grinder with a slotted dry diamond blade, trying not to over cut too much. I drilled a hole in the pressure treated plate, dropped a fishline with a weight on it down, taped the cable to it and pulled it in. Hbiss, there was only one hole we weren't able to fish to, so we had to cut another.

Thanks for all the input!!!

I'm surprised the Carlon plastic old work box will accomodate the thickness of the block. Happy you found a solution that satisfies you and the AHJ! Good luck! Kudos for hanging in there to find the workaround.

Macmikeman; we were thinking of mudding in around the boxes to keep them more solidly in place. Do you think the 50%/50% mix would stick to PVC boxes? Or maybe the hydraulic cement Hbiss mentioned?
