Intercepting Feeders

Is this pic clearer than my previous attachments? I'd like to know the typical way intercepts of feeders are done. Once shutdown/de-energized do you just cut or disconnect the conduit/wire at a coupling, insert your splice box and connect new conduit? Thanks.

Yes to both questions.

Cut the conduit/wire 3'past the coupling then pull off the 3' piece and install your box. Now you'll have 3' of free conductor to splice on to.
