Hello,
I was going through some water heaters on gamut website..I was looking at the electrical specs and i looked at a peculiar water heater below:

https://www.gamut.com/p/rheem-compact-commercial-water-heater-30-gal-tank-capacity-30-in-ht-NzgxNDI2

In the specs they have single phase amps as 28.8A for 208v 6kw heater single phase which is 6000/208=28.8A which is correct but for the three phase amps they have 87A which i dont understand..For three phase 208 we have 6000/208*1.732=16.6A.Even electrically it doesnt make sense to me when you switch from single phase to three phase your amps go down not up..Am i missing something here?

My WAG.

Somebody building the page simply multiplied 28.8A x 3 and rounded up. Some clueless IT person typing in info.

I have never seen such a small WH be 3 phase and if IIRC 3 phase heaters have elements in sets of 3, not 2, for balanced loading. Interesting little critter you got there.

Thank god..I was scratching my head..Seriously they gotta pay attention if someone is buying it they might be wasting money on that heater thinking they need more amps for three phase..Its not only that unit they have done for other units too...

Or just duff info.

I could see an upper and lower element, both 3ph, as well as a 15-50R connection, tho I cannot fathom a reason why one would use cord and plug on a water heater (perhaps "corded electric" is their way of saying "electric" or "not gas fired"). and yes, either their amperage or power are miscalculated for 3ph.
