I got a warranty call Friday for a single family home in which we installed a basic interlinked smoke system. When the owner opens the windows, the alarms go off. What do we do with this call? Replace all the detectors? Tell the customer to leave the windows shut?

I would tell them to replace the windows. :D Seriously, I think only one of them is causing the problem. Ask him to open the windows gradually and find out which one is causing the problem. It may be easier to replace them all. I am guessing these are ionization type detectors but I can't imagine what is setting them off.

my guess is they have a dusty house and opening the windows is stirring dust up into the air setting them off.

It must be a dang sand storm. Perhaps it is pollen season and that's doing it. We just finished with the pine pollen-- the entire screened porch was covered with a quarter inch of yellow pollen.
