Has anyone ever done this? If vent fan loses power, can the battery charger's 'boost' be interlocked with fan's motor control circuit to halt hydrogen emissions while fan is disabled? Battery room is quite small and has no combustible gas detection system.

Thanks in advance.

Battery facilities constructed in accord with Article 480 do not need to be classified. Facilities that don't comply with Article 480 are already in violation.

BTW the presence or absence of a combustible gas detection system is irrelevant.

Agreed, but if ventilation is the key factor in declassification of those facilities (NEC 480.10) wouldn't safeguards need to be in place for it to remain so?

I suppose the obvious answer is that it should be possible. Required/helpful? Dunno.

You just need a simple ice-cube relay interlocked with the fan control and Battery Charger. You dont need to shut down the entire charger, like you said, the boost only.

It is a "key factor" for overall safety.

It has long been the opinion of both CMP13 and 14 that hazardous location classification [Article 500] is unnecessary. Of course, you could make a Public Comment in the 2023 NEC cycle to the contrary, but either one or both CMPs would likely shoot it down. Basically, hydrogen generation is so low and dispersion/dilution so fast that there is no benefit to classifying. Otherwise, classification would already be specifically required in Article 480.

Actually that's unnecessary too or it would already be in the product standards and/or manufacture's instructions.
