Are intersystem grounding termination device's required for all single family services? I cannot seem to find it in code?
How do you handle a situation where a service is for a barn, shed, etc. and it's obvious that it won't have any other utilities, such as phone, cable, satellite, etc, do you require the bonding bridge on these?Yes, that + others 250.94
I always put one in regardless, if there’s a meter, I usually do it. I seem to be the only one doing it around here, doesn’t seem to be an item the inspectors here are looking at.How do you handle a situation where a service is for a barn, shed, etc. and it's obvious that it won't have any other utilities, such as phone, cable, satellite, etc, do you require the bonding bridge on these?
250.94(A) The Intersystem Bonding Termination Device.
An intersystem bonding termination (IBT) for connecting intersystem bonding conductors shall be provided external to enclosures at the service equipment or metering equipment enclosure and at the disconnecting means for any additional buildings or structures.
You apply the exception. How do you handle a situation where a service is for a barn, shed, etc. and it's obvious that it won't have any other utilities, such as phone, cable, satellite, etc, do you require the bonding bridge on these?
Exception to (A) and (B):
Means for connecting intersystem bonding conductors are not required if communications systems are not likely to be used in or on the building or structure.
You apply the exception.
I don't see that exception in the 2017.It's awfully easy to miss that exception considering where it's located.
I take that to mean if needed you have to comply with the requirements for installing them.If an IBT is used, it shall comply with the following:
Since the exception applies to both (A) and (B) the NEC style manual requires it to follow (B). If it only applied to (A) it would follow (A).It's awfully easy to miss that exception considering where it's located.
That is 100% a judgement call...not required "if communications systems are not likely to be used in or on the building or structure".IMO a barn or a shed do not meet the exception so one is required. A pool panel on a pole is a different story.
Unless its a newer building with a ufer ground with no exposed GEC. Or in WA where the GEC can not be run exposed (IE run in PVC conduit)Never seen a cable or phone company ever connect to one. Even when present they will still just use a split bolt on the GEC .
