I need to run intrinsicaly safe control wiring (Start/Stop + Speed Potentiometer) from an unclassified location to the operator station in a Class 1, Div 1, industrial location with a dropped ceiling. I was thinking of running multiconductor PLTC above the ceiling. Would this be appropriate? I referenced 504.20, 336.10(7) and 504.30. I'm not sure if this would pass 504.30 if the rest is ok. I know a seal is needed.

Application
I am replacing a mixer that has an across-the-line starter with a new unit that has a VFD to run the motor. So, the power wiring is existing.

Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Art 336 does not apply to Type PLTC; it is an Article 725 construction and must be installed consistent with that Article as well as 504.30. Do you have the manufacturer's control drawing? Is the dropped ceiling a plenum area?

The odds are fairly high that what you want to do is acceptable but you need to review Art 725.
