Inverter / generator combination backup for a residence

One of my peers just called me up and asked me if I had ever installed an inverter and possibly a generator combination system for a residence.

I never have, and am very interested in what the legalities would be (batteries in the garage, height requirements, etc...)

Anyway, he talked to the head electrical inspector at the local RBD (the one who told me I had to ground plastic boxes). And the inspector told him that he was not here to tell him how to perform his job.

This is something new to both uf us, and I am interested, for nothing more than the learning experience of it.

The homeowner happens to work for the company below, and is a distributor for these things... in foreign countries. They have always been for commercial applications, but now he wants to use it for a home...

So, anyone got any ideas or experiences?

Thanks,
Greg

I have been doing some grid tied solar jobs.

What exactly is this person looking to do?

If it is a grid tied interactive system the first move must be to find out the power company and ask for their rules for 'interconnection' are.

The rules are tough, and there is an approval process.

The actual work is easy.
