if anyone out there is considering using Invoice2Go software, allow
me to share my two cents worth....

i've been using it since 2012. sang it's praises loud and long.

not any more. they did a major update two years or so ago, and a lot of the
charm disappeared then, but it was ok.

over the weekend, they updated it again. holy chit. they destroyed the
functionality and it seems destroyed access to cloud data.

almost all of your data, including your individual invoices, is no longer accessible
to you. if you need full analysis of this debacle, you can check their facebook page,
or the reviews of the app on the app store.

if you are considering using it, run the other way, quickly.

this company is not three guys in a garage with an iphone app and a server connected
to their home network.

the company is currently valued at around US $100M. they are based in austrailia.

last year, they processed over ten billion dollars worth of invoices for 250,000 people
worldwide. i've personally got over three million in receipts on their system since 2012.

they just trashed the entire thing. i'm capturing this years invoices as they are still available.

i'm only really concerned about the last three years worth of invoices, personally.
but i'm pretty pissed in general.

That is one thing that leaves me skeptical about storing data in the cloud, it is still stored somewhere and if whoever owns where it is stored decides to change something, breaks down, or simply goes broke and shuts down their operation, you better have more then one place to retrieve your data from.

yep. it' ain't your cloud, and if the cloud rains, you are screwed.
i only used this to generate invoices and estimates.
so, i have all the emails with the originals attached, and can access them
from the outbox on my mail client. i don' need their steenking cloud.

i didn't use any of their accounting modules. thank god.
there were people who used their whole suite, for scheduling,
timekeeping, expense tracking, everything.
their entire business was on there. customers, vendors, scheduling.

those guys don't even know where to go to work in the morning.

We used QBs online backup and it saved our butt when we needed it, but I have no desire for Cloud anything else.
I still think one needs a local backup at least every month, quarter, whatever time period you are comfortable having to try to find lost data for should the worst thing happen.

I have a external hard drive I once in a while (probably should do more often then I do) back up everything, personal, business, whatever.

Does no good to have such drive always on and connected if you have some kind of virus that finds it's way through active networking and it gets compromised. Yet cloud storage should still be there if your computer and other local storage should get destroyed by fire, flood, tornado....

Have you found an alternative?
Seems to be 100's companies out there selling some system from accounting software, database, CRM, flat rate companies, to service software.
Many offer free download demos.
I have tried a good number of them and have not found a winner yet.
Most have strong points, stupid things, and 1 reason or another why it was a poor choice.
Other companies only want to be able to have a salesperson call you 1st to tell you how good it is. I passed on some of those after the calls got to be too much.

The 1st problem is they are designed to be all in 1 for every possible user.
So then some invoices have shipping address, countries, different currencies, shipping costs, etc that look like it would do better for an Ebay seller.

Some you can't put an item on the invoice if it's not in their inventory.
To do that you need to go back and forth between menus.
Some don't even have a search option for inventory.
Other ones map address, send texts & emails, etc, can get to be a expensive monthly cost, and still lack something.

The reason for the cloud is so every truck and office person in your company with an account and electronic device can access the same information at the same time.

Such as the office can look at an invoice draft. A tech can find an estimate or past invoice. The tech can look at the up to date schedule.
Access limits can be set in most programs.

The only other way is you hosted your own server. Some software requires you to have a separate Windows license set on the server for each user. Then you would need to deal with server security while maintaining remote use by your users.

Right now I'm leaning towards Apptivo. Out of the box it seems to need a lot of work and time to learn.

yeah.... i'm gonna give InvoiceASAP a shot.

read reviews on it, downloaded it, and set it up in test mode.

got an email saying if i needed any help getting it set up,
to email with a good time for them to call.

got a call the next day. spoke with the rep. asked hard questions.
explained who i was leaving, and why. he said, yep. he'd personally
spoken with in excess of 80 people that morning, who had changed
over.

all i need is a decent invoicing and estimate app. like what invoice2go
used to be. the good thing is they are domestically located in oakland.
so is the server farm.

he also said he flagged my account as a i2g refugee. they are offering
50% off the first year to refugees. the thing is only $15 a month for
the full featured proggie. the minime is $4 a month.

it looks to be the best thing i've found so far.

Not knowing just what "that morning" is, if it were say 8:00 AM to Noon, 80 people only allows for three minutes per conversation, with no breaks.

yep. coulda been a lie, could have been an alternate fact,
but i suspect it's probably close to true. i2g was being used by
over 250k people. supposedly processing over 10 billion dollars
worth of invoices last year.

go to i2g on facebook, and read the comments. people
can't access their invoices, they can't get paid, they are
losing entire data sets for their business. they had calendar
modules for scheduling. people can't even figure out where they
are supposed to go in the morning. all their data is gone.

so far, InvoiceASAP is stupid easy to set up. if you upgrade to
the enterprise version, at $15 a month, it'll automatically interface
with either quickbooks on your pc, or quickbooks in the cloud,
or Zero. it took about 15 minutes to set up.

i still have to import customers, upload a logo, etc. and test a bit.
but if it integrates with quickbooks seamlessly, i'm good to go.

i've only got about $20k in play on invoice to go at this time,
and i've mailed all the invoices to myself so i have them off their
server.

i did find $4,050 worth of invoices that invoice2go lost from last
october. never got paid for them. i'm gonna see if i can resolve
that tomorrow.

Fresh books has proven to be a good app

Fresh books has proven to be a good app

I've been using fresh books for six years now and haven't had any issue some of the things you have to use an actual computer for but 90% of it is available on my smartphone. I can even send a specoal link to my accountant and she gets everything she needs. Good system. And i recomend printing your work history every 4mo.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems with Inv2Go. I opened 2 tickets with their help desk. The first ticket was mainly just questions and I didn't care when or if they answered them. The 2nd ticket was actual problems. I get a reply stating what they are working on it and will get back to me. None of what they were "working on" had anything to do with my problem(s).

I then get an email asking if there was anything else they could do and were closing the ticket unless I update it. I replied back and said "anything else you can do? You haven't even addressed either one of the problems I reported. How can you think it's resolved or close the ticket?"
I told them that their upgrade went 2 steps backward rather than improve anything.

If I can figure out how to get my client list and past invoices imported, I will close that acct. and find another!
