How is IR testing of 480volt mcc classified in 70e ? Is it considered energized work and would
a person be in the rab or pab ? we have to write a job analysis before doing the work and we arenot sure if it is considered ew. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's not energized work. You do need to wear the proper flash protection as required for the calculated flash boundary and incident energy as well as shock protection if you are within the restricted approach boundary.

If you use the tables you will have 2 different HRC's, one for the IR scanner and one for the person removing the panels. Both are addressed specifically in the tables.

I'D like to ask a second part to the op . Can the scanner be a electrician who is a Q E as per company policy or a maintenance mechanic who is a Q E , able to perform the IR scanning alone ? Or is this a required 2 Q E task ? Also by openning the hinged doors on the 480volt mcc is the that considered being in the PAB ?
Thanks for all the responses to these questions.
