What type of wire should be used for irrigation sytems in public park systems with multiple solenoid stations? We have contract specs requiring UF type 14 AWG copper, but, in practice, contractors have been using individual 14 wires. After installation, we meghohm the wire and uduslly do not achieve the 50 meg reading specified in the contract docs. We have been using a minimum of 5 megs as practical for a 24 volt system, and wonder why the higher reading of 50 megs is specified in the docs?

Re: Irrigation

The 50 meg value seems high. 5 is more reasonable. You may want to use XHHW-2 conductor, its a better insulation than UF.
