Is 10AWG sufficient?

I recently upgraded the electerical service to my house. The contractor installed dual, 30 amp breakers for 240v service out to a junction box for future spa installation. He used, what appears to be, four 10AWG wires run from the main breaker panel to a GFI breaker box rated at 50amps mounted 30 ft away from the main breakers. My plan was to add an additional 35 ft of wire to my proposed spa location.
I'm worried that the 10 AWG wire is not sufficient for this application?
Does anybody have any thoughts on this matter?
Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Is 10AWG sufficient?

most hot tubs i been in contact with either require a 20 amp 120 volt dedicated circuit(they do not heat while jets or air pump running)or require 50 amp 240 volt service.A lot depends on where you live as to if a 120 volt is enough.#6 copper would be a wiser choice

Re: Is 10AWG sufficient?

If you go to the home page of Mike Holt?s web site, you can find your way (under ?Free Stuff?) to a free excel spreadsheet that performs voltage drop calculations. I took a quick shot at entering the numbers that I picked up from your description. My answer was that the total voltage drop would be under 3%. That would generally be considered acceptable. But you need to do your own calculations, and come to your own conclusion.
