Is 90 degrees the maximum bend?

still over 90

Why?

The box will be 20' off the floor, comes time to pull I need to have some one go to that box.

Sure if a box is required I will put it there but I do not see a NEC violation with a 100 degree bend.

If box is flat against wall or ceiling , you still have the same bend ,unless the box is on edge, and that looks ugly.

Ugly or not, why have to have somebody go up 20' to access a box that's not needed? (unless it's because of BISCI requirements) Just bend the amount of degrees needed, be it 89, 91,100, or what ever, and eliminate the box. As long as there is less than 360 degrees in the run it's fine.

BTW, I can bend a 360 deg ring in small conduit, just because the breaks between each 90 may not be distinguishable is not an issue, there are four individual 90 deg increments in a circle.

That's an angle I hadn't thought about. . If an inspector says that the 100? bend isn't allowed by code, why not just respond, "I don't have a 100? bend, I have side by side 50? bends." or say "I have a 90? next to a 10? bend".

Or maybe bend a 90? and then move over just enough that a 1" straight section is visible and bend a 10?.

It's called "playing the game" and it's something that I never try to get a contractor to do when I'm inspecting the job but it's a useful angle when dealing with some inspectors.

I need a 100? bend, so I put a 50? bend in the conduit, then another 50? bend. Who says they have to be a certain distance apart? As long as I don't exceed 360?, a 100? bend is legal.

I once saw a four-foot piece of 1/2" EMT with 360? of bends in it. Wish I had my camera that day!

I forgot question 2: If not now, was it ever against code?

When I replied to the guy asking, that if it wasn't around 358.26 then I didn't think such a rule existed, he said he believed it was against code at some point in time.

My Codes go back to 1940, and there's no mention of it anywhere. It's always 360? max.
