Square D Application Engineerring
Ray in drives transferred me to Margie. Margie then transfered me to a Product specialist Mike. I gave mike the publication number .....FI=100amp frame KI-250amp frame, LI = 600 amp frame.
Mike said from Page 44 you can not determine total clear. You can however determine pick-up time. Mike asked that I call in on monday and further discuss this with a specialists. I will let you know what I learn. Perhaps for both of us.

According to the time current curve in Square D's publication 0601CT9101R12_03 page 44, their FI current limiting breaker clears in less than 1/2 cycle.
Jim, is this really "clearing", as in extinguishing the arc, or opening quickly enough that the arc brings current below a set point?

To be truly termed "current limiting" the device must reduce the peak current to a level substantially lower than if it were not in the circuit and the current must be cleared completely within a specific time frame (usually 1/2 cycle).

The Square D curve shows the "right hand side" of the FI breaker curve contacting the zero current axis at less than 1/2 cycle.
