I'd call those pictures "Old house, anywhere USA"

Not any worse than the stuff I see on a regular basis. Not saying it's good but is is pretty typical.
 
We only have one or two fires down this way and they're not very close to us, but those ones up north are bad, they actually ordered the evacuation of a whole town today.
 
not to get back on topic, but these pictures are a perfect example of why our code book is useless....

Useless? Explain please.

I think the installations represented in the pictures were most likely done by persons with no knowlege that one exists.

that's my point...and while ugly, and quite dangerous, they worked for years and no one died, nothing burnt down.

i'm not saying it's how we should do everything, i'm saying we've gone overboard in the opposite direction...

I agree to an extent, particularly when you consider that most of the rest of the developing world is wired that way or worse. I'd say we here in the US/Canada probably have some of the worlds strictest electrical codes
