I am using a through the cabinet voltage monitor on a 480VAC 3 phase system to easily show if voltage is present on all 3 phases. The monitor comes with a 4 conductor #18AWG cable. My system is 100 amps. Since the cable is 8 feet long and will not leave the enclosure is overcurrent protection for the cable required?

I have read where adding overcurrent protection can cause false negatives which can be more of a hazard.

usually these things have high impedance resistors built in so the amount of current that can flow through the wires is very limited.
